My Wednesday World: Prey on the Doorstep

My daughter just saw our cat drop this sweet little bird on our porch. Usually he leaves dead birds, but this one was still quite alive. I squeezed out the front door so not to hurt the little flyer, wrapped him in a kerchief, and tried to show the kids how to move slowly and gently around our wounded friend. I took the bird over to a neighbor's space who has several bird feeders. I was able to find a little spot underneath with plenty of feed on the ground, and concealed his resting spot. It's hard to tell if he is too injured to survive, but it was worth the effort...and an impromptu teachable moment.
